SAP
SAP automation for S/4HANA and ECC teams
SAP automation helps operations, finance and IT leaders at mid-size and large companies remove the manual work that still surrounds their SAP system. We build integrations, approval workflows, document intake and AI steps around SAP S/4HANA or ECC, using standard APIs and SAP BTP where it fits, so the core stays clean and your Basis and security teams stay in control.

Quick answer
What is SAP automation?
SAP automation means moving data into, out of and between SAP processes without manual retyping. It covers invoice posting, order entry, approvals, master data sync and reporting, built with SAP APIs, SAP BTP tools such as SAP Build Process Automation, or external integration layers, while keeping the S/4HANA or ECC core free of custom modifications.
- The biggest SAP automation wins are usually at the edges, where people retype data.
- A clean core approach uses released APIs instead of modifying standard SAP code.
- SAP Build Process Automation fits SAP-centric processes; cross-system flows may need external orchestration.
- AI can propose postings, but people approve them and every step is logged.
01
What is SAP automation?
SAP automation is the work of moving data into, out of and between SAP processes without people retyping it. That includes posting supplier invoices, creating sales orders from customer emails, syncing master data with a CRM or MES, routing approvals, and producing reports that today live in exported spreadsheets.
SAP itself is highly configurable, but many companies still run critical steps outside it. Purchase requests arrive by email, goods receipts are checked against PDFs, and month-end reconciliations depend on someone pulling tables into Excel. Those edges are where automation typically saves the most time.
02
SAP S/4HANA automation and the clean core approach
SAP S/4HANA automation works best when custom logic sits outside the core system. SAP calls this keeping a clean core: use released APIs and extension points instead of modifying standard code, so upgrades stay manageable.
We follow that approach. Automations call released OData and SOAP APIs, BAPIs or IDocs, or run as side-by-side extensions, rather than adding custom ABAP to the core. For companies still on ECC and planning a move to S/4HANA, this matters twice, because integrations built on stable interfaces are far easier to carry across the migration.
WHAT WE BUILD
What we automate
Typical automations, each scoped and quoted at a fixed price after a free review.
Supplier invoice intake
Invoices arriving by email are read with AI, matched to purchase orders and goods receipts in SAP, and posted or parked for review with exceptions routed to AP.
Email to sales order
Customer orders received as PDFs or emails are extracted, validated against SAP master data and created as sales orders, with unclear lines flagged for a person.
Purchase requisition approvals
Requests from a form or ServiceNow create requisitions in SAP and route through approval rules in Teams or email, with status visible to the requester.
Master data sync
Customer, material and vendor records stay in step between SAP, Salesforce and other systems, with field ownership rules and conflict alerts.
Month-end reconciliation support
Scheduled jobs pull balances and open items from SAP, compare them with bank and subledger data, and produce an exceptions list for the finance team.
Inventory and order dashboards
SAP data is replicated to Snowflake, Databricks or Microsoft Fabric and shown in Power BI so planners stop exporting tables to Excel.
03
SAP integration with the rest of your stack
Our SAP integration work connects SAP with the systems your teams use every day. Common pairs include SAP and Salesforce for customer and order data, SAP and ServiceNow for procurement and asset requests, SAP and a warehouse or transport system, and SAP and a data platform such as Snowflake or Databricks for analytics.
We use SAP Integration Suite when you already license it, and otherwise integrate through your existing middleware or a governed tool like n8n running in your own environment. Each interface has a defined owner for every field, error handling with alerts, and logs your auditors can follow.
04
SAP BTP and SAP Build Process Automation
SAP BTP (Business Technology Platform) is SAP's cloud platform for integration, extensions, data and AI services. Within it, SAP Build Process Automation combines workflow, forms, decision rules and bot automation in a low-code tool designed to work with SAP data.
SAP process automation on BTP is a good fit when the process lives mostly in SAP and your company is already invested in BTP. When a process spans many non-SAP systems, or the BTP services you would need are not licensed, an external orchestration layer can be simpler. We look at both options and recommend the one that fits your landscape and budget.
05
AI on top of SAP data
AI is useful around SAP in specific, bounded places. It can read supplier invoices and delivery notes and propose postings, classify inbound customer emails into order, inquiry or complaint, summarize open purchase orders for a buyer, or answer plain-language questions about inventory from a governed copy of SAP data.
SAP also offers its own AI assistant, Joule, in many cloud products. Where you use it, we focus on the cross-system cases it does not cover. Proposed postings stay drafts until a person approves them, and every AI step writes an audit trail.
06
Enterprise realities: security, change control and audit
SAP projects touch financial and operational records, so governance comes first. We work with your Basis, security and GRC teams, use technical users with the narrowest roles that work, and follow your transport and change approval process.
We test in development and quality systems before production, document every interface, and complete vendor security reviews when required. We do not claim SAP partner status and never give compliance opinions, but we design so your auditors can see who changed what and when.
07
How SAP automation projects work and what they cost
We begin with a free review of the process, your SAP release and the systems around it. You get a fixed quote and a staged plan, usually starting with one well-defined flow such as invoice intake or order creation. A focused flow typically takes three to five weeks including testing, while a broader program runs six to eight weeks or more in stages.

FAQ
SAP Automation questions
What can be automated in SAP?
Common candidates are invoice posting, sales order entry, purchase requisitions and approvals, master data maintenance, reconciliations and reporting. The best starting point is usually a high-volume process where people retype data from emails or PDFs into SAP.
What is SAP BTP used for?
SAP BTP is SAP's cloud platform for integration, extensions, low-code apps, workflow, data and AI services. Companies use it to connect SAP with other systems and to build extensions without modifying the SAP core.
Is SAP Build Process Automation the same as RPA?
It includes RPA-style bots, but it also covers workflows, forms and decision rules. It succeeded SAP Workflow Management and SAP Intelligent RPA as SAP's main low-code automation tool on BTP.
Can you automate SAP ECC, or only S/4HANA?
We work with both. On ECC we use existing interfaces such as BAPIs, RFCs and IDocs, and design integrations so they can be moved to S/4HANA APIs with limited rework when you migrate.
Do you modify our SAP system?
We avoid core modifications. Automations use released APIs and side-by-side extensions, follow your transport process and are approved by your SAP team before going live.
How much does SAP automation cost?
Cost depends on the process, the number of connected systems, your SAP release and existing licenses such as SAP Integration Suite. After a free review you receive a fixed quote, delivered in stages.
